I love collecting quotes about chess from celebrities and important men and women in history. Today’s quote is from Benjamin Franklin

The game of Chess is not merely an idle amusement; several very valuable qualities of the mind, useful in the course of human life, are to be acquired and strengthened by it, so as to become habits ready on all occasions, for life is a kind of Chess, in which we have often points to gain and competitors or adversaries to contend with, and in which there is a vast variety of good and ill events that are, in some degree, the effect of prudence, or the want of it. By playing at Chess, then, we may learn foresight, circumspection and caution. Benjamin Franklin

About Richard Weekes

I started the Greenwich Chess Group in 2006 and operated for five years until 2011. I've recently changed the name of my organisation to the Richard Weekes Chess Academy and I still teach children how to play chess in both primary and secondary schools. I also promote chess as an educational tool and a socially cohesive activity and I operate junior chess clubs in the community. Starting off mainly in the Royal Borough of Greenwich I now also teach children and young people in Lewisham, Southwark and Lambeth and I will soon be teaching chess in Brent schools too. Now running five junior chess clubs in South East London, I love teaching beginners and new players. This is turning out to be so much fun that I'm really enjoying myself. As I have a real passion for teaching children chess, I do believe that I've finally found what I want to do for a long time to come.
